It will feature investors, startups, policymakers, CXOs, and successful founders from reputed organizations such as Niti Aayog, the Asian Venture Philanthropic Network, industry associations, state and central governments, UN leadership, and more.
The two-day event is designed to identify key challenges and develop actionable solutions. It will provide a platform for all key industry stakeholders to come together, network, deliberate, and find implementable solutions. The event will conclude with a startup showcase featuring founders working towards clean air.
Air pollution is a health emergency and a significant economic burden, costing South Asia 10.3% of GDP in 2019. Cost-effective solutions exist to address major pollution sources such as fossil fuel emissions, industrial activities, agriculture, and waste burning. Despite the benefits, clean air initiatives are underfunded. UNEP’s analysis highlights that limited resources hinder emission reduction efforts, data analysis, and enforcement. Climate finance is a key, underutilized resource, with only 2% of international public climate finance targeting air pollution.
Innovative solutions and industry engagement are crucial for reducing pollution. The National Productivity Council (NPC) has consulted with industry representatives from six sectors (chlor-alkali, cement, pulp & paper, iron & steel, textile, and fertilizer) to gather project ideas focused on mitigating air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions.
