Waste management is one of the most important issues that our planet is facing today. With the global population expected to reach 9.7 billion by 2050, the amount of waste we generate is only going to increase. The Zero Waste Cities Challenge was a success in identifying and supporting innovative solutions to waste management. The challenge also helped to raise awareness of the importance of zero waste and circular economy solutions in cities.

The challenge received over 100 entries from across the world, and 12 entrepreneurs were selected for each city to participate in a business mentoring program. The mentors helped the entrepreneurs refine their business ideas and work on their business plans.

The aim of the Zero Waste Cities program was to get fresh ideas to benefit poor and marginalized communities while designing out waste, keeping materials in use or returning waste to its natural state.
